The Crossroads School in Natick, MA, a Bike to the Beach New England partner, is a private, non-profit day school. Their students, children with autism and other relatable mental disabilities, are given the opportunity to learn comprehensive social and vocational skills to prepare them to have fulfilling and independent lives.
According to Autism Speaks, 90% of individuals with autism are unemployed or underemployed. However, with proper training, support, and acceptance, people with autism are capable of having financial independence.
At the Crossroads School, specific attention is given to skills that will prepare their students for external job sites and employment in adulthood. This is accomplished by breaking down job sites, working on individual components and shaping the activities to the students’ current level.
It is this form of determination and attention to detail of the lives of those with autism, that makes Crossroad School an impactful partner with Bike to the Beach. A portion of the donations raised through the Bike to the Beach New England ride directly supports programs within the Crossroad School!
